A313 Pharmaceutical-Grade Vitamin A & Retinol

A313 is a thick, greasy, translucent ointment containing 0.12% retinol esters, a mild form of vitamin A. Note that 0.12% retinol esters is not equivalent to 0.1% pure retinoic acid.

Uses:

  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
  • Treats pigmentation, including post-acne marks
  • Manages acne, oily skin, and blackheads
  • Addresses actinic keratosis

Science Behind Retinoids

Retinoids, including retinol, retinaldehyde, retinyl esters, and retinoic acid, are derivatives of vitamin A. Extensively studied for over 40 years, retinoids are scientifically proven to combat aging through:

  • Promoting skin cell regeneration
  • Stimulating collagen production to reduce wrinkles and sagging
  • Preventing collagen breakdown from environmental damage
  • Lightening pigmentation by reducing melanin production
  • Acting as antioxidants to neutralize free radicals from sun exposure or pollution

How to Use A313

  • Apply sparingly to affected areas 2–3 times weekly, increasing to nightly as skin tolerance builds.
  • For cutaneous use only.
  • May cause irritant dermatitis (redness, tingling, itching, or burning). Discontinue if severe irritation occurs.

Composition

  • Synthetic vitamin A (concentrate): 200,000 IU per 100g
  • Excipients: macrogol 400, macrogol 4000, polysorbate 80
  • Other Names for Vitamin A
  • Retinol, retinal, retinyl acetate, retinyl palmitate, retinyl phosphate.

Precautions

  • Avoid use on sensitive skin, infections, open sores, or oozing dermatoses.
  • Do not combine with other vitamin A-containing medications to avoid hypervitaminosis A, which can cause serious side effects.
  • Use sparingly; avoid large skin areas, broken skin, mucous membranes, or occlusive dressings.
  • Not recommended for premature infants or very young children.
  • High doses of non-absorbable sugars (e.g., sorbitol, maltitol) in similar products may cause diarrhea.
  • Consult the product leaflet for full precautions and side effects.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Use during pregnancy only if essential and not with other vitamin A products.

Avoid applying to breasts while breastfeeding to prevent newborn ingestion.
